Proton is a toy for 'might as well try' (for something from a bundle, or some abandonware) I don't see why I'd spend money on a product that doesn't support my platform (and, now, has the stink of dropping committed support - why should we expect 'full Proton support' to be any more reliable than 'native vers on release') Proton is not the same, and just not good enough for many of us. ![]() Disappointing for the VR crowd, I'm sure (and yes, I remember, some of them were pretty nasty about it), but OK, they explained their plan in detail and stuck to it. Witness the VR fiasco - they tried it for ES1, decided it was too much work, and not up to their internal standards - so they said from the beginning that they wouldn't do VR in ES2. Yes it's a small-ish studio, but as per their PR, they're industry veterans, and of course, loads of experience from the last couple games. We were told throughout the looong EA wait that we'd get it at launch, and on Kickstarter. No native Linux is a massive disappointment. Well, I'm not on Deck, and I couldn't suggest anyone buy into that kind of 'reliability') I see there's a comment from someone on Proton saying that gfx/performance tanked a few months ago, then one near launch saying performance was back, at least on Deck. I would have been mildly annoyed, considering how firmly they kept saying 'ready at launch', but OK, native within a month of launch would be good enough. I thought, 'OK, we didn't get our native vers at launch, they'll probaby finish it soon, I'll check later'. ![]() I haven't been on Steam much lately, but saw a notification from that thread a week or two ago. They said it wouldn't stay up to date*, so 'no' - but that I was welcome to buy EA, playtest in Proton if I wanted to give gameplay feedback, and rest assured that Linux support would come at launch. Months ago, I was eager for early-access, and asked for a Linux build. Rather than, "Linux is high on our priority list." Transparency. This should have been iterated back in the February post. ![]() Yes yes, we all know about Proton support, but EVERSPACE 2 has been a LONG AWAITED Linux release, and I do mean LONG.įor ROCKFISH Games to come all this way and admit defeat last minute, I'm disappointed.
